Password Reset - Next Steps

Changing your password on the Password Self Service page does not update any stored account information within applications and mobile devices. This means that your network account may lock shortly after changing the password, as one of your applications or mobile devices attempt to use an outdated password to access your account. Below is a list of places your password may need to be updated. The list below is not all-inclusive, but is intended to give you some guidance. 

University Workstation

If you are logged into any Loyola workstations, log out and log back in with the new password. For a Loyola laptop, it must be connected to on-campus Ethernet in order to update the password.

Email on Mobile or Personal Devices

You must update your email password if you have it synced on your mobile device.  Instructions for updating your password, removing and adding your account for all devices are found on the Microsoft Exchange Email FAQ.

"LUC" Wireless

Connecting to the secured and encrypted network requires authentication. You will need to forget the "LUC" network and reconnect with your new password. Instructions for each operating system and device are found on the Wireless Connect FAQ.

Saved Passwords in Web Browsers

If you have a password saved in your browser to log into a web application like LOCUS or Sakai, you must open the browser and update or remove the stored password. Check the browser developer’s website for specific instructions on how to do this.

OneDrive

OneDrive sync allows you to access your files even when you’re offline by synchronizing files directly with File Explorer. OneDrive should prompt you for a new password when it sees a change, but if it does not:

  1. From the OneDrive app, click More, then click Settings
  2. Click Unlink this PC (note that doing this will require you to re-sync any Office 365 Group locations you are syncing)
  3. You will be prompted to sign in again using your new Loyola credentials

Personal Mac - Keychain

The Keychain Access application (/Applications/Utilities) stores a wide variety of items—including passwords for email, websites, servers, network shares, Wi-Fi networks, and encrypted disk images. Note that following these instructions will result in having to re-enter any saved

  • Press ⌘ + SPACE to open Spotlight Search, and type “Keychain Access”
  • From Keychain Access, click Preferences, then General, then Reset My Default Keychain
  • Enter your Mac’s login password
  • Restart your computer

Personal Windows PC & Credential Manager

Credential Manager is where some commonly used passwords are saved and stored.

  • Click the Start button in the bottom left corner of the screen and begin typing “Credential Manager”. Click it when it appears in the list.
  • Click Windows Credentials
  • If an entry appears in a blue font, click the drop-down arrow at right, then click Remove
  • Repeat step 3 for each blue entry
  • Click Generic Credentials and repeat step 3 for any blue entries there as well

Third Party Resources

Manually remove or update the account credentials on all applications or mobile devices configured to use your Loyola University Chicago credentials. This includes such features as email apps, OneDrive, and Wi-Fi network connections.

I'm Pretty Sure I'm Typing My New Password Correctly, But It Isn't Working!

Most likely your account has locked up due to old passwords not being updated. You will not be able to log into anything while the account is locked – even if you are entering the correct, new password.

Do not change your password again. Your account will unlock on its own after 15 minutes as long as no additional old passwords are seen, or you can use the following tool:

Self-unlocking your account

  1. Return to the Password Self Service Reset
  2. Enter your e-mail address, followed by the CAPTCHA.
  3. Next, you will be asked if you forgot your password OR if you know it and can't sign in. Select "I know my password, but still can't sign in" and click next. This will allow you to unlock your account.
  4. You will be prompted to confirm your second factor authentication method such as text message or Microsoft Authenticator App.
  5. That's it, your account has been unlocked

I've reviewed all these options on my devices, and I still don't know where the lockout is coming from.
